I took on some hands on tasks to help one of the squads I’m supporting in my new job. The work is basically doing some front-end code for the feature we are building. The cool think is that we have a system in place, where we all follow this same structure/template. It includes things like state management, form management, and unit testing. Because of the high level of scrutiny we have in this industry, we have in place what we call controls. These controls are things we do to manage risk. Which, if it comes to pass, it becomes an incident. In this case, unit testing our code is part of those controls, like code review, and code management are too. Now, normally I wouldn’t put too much effort on unit testing front end code. But here is a must. So I’m forced to be rigorous about it. Which is a great way for me to practice this skill that does not come naturally to me. So here is to controls, and how they bring an opportunity to improve my craft!
